Product Overview

Image Archive (ImgArchive) is a free achieving tool for photographic images designed to handle everything from small to very large photographic archives simply and effectively.

It provides an organised place to store digital images for safe keeping, editing and viewing. ImgArchive is a Digital Image archive system with version control following the Digital Asset Management (DAM) design goals.

ImgArchive uses the base Operating Systems file system in order to store images in an organised file structure. Metadata associated with each image is also stored in this organised file structure in common plain text formats (CSV, JSON and XML) with addition of an optional SQLite database to providing the ability to query metadata.

At the core of ImgArchive is a digital Vault. This vault holds a copy of all images contained within the archive. Once images are stored in the Vault access to these images are restricted. In normal operation images can only be copied into dedicated areas, such as the Work and Picture spaces. In addition images can be exported to any valid folder.

One or more backups are normally made automatically as images are imported into the archive. These backups mirror the main archive so if the main archive becomes damaged in anyway one of the backups can be used to automatically repair the main archive.

ImaArchive supports versioning of images, this means that an image can be copied into the workspace, edited using tools such as Photoshop and placed back in to the archive as a new image. This can be carried many times creating a set of versions of the original. No version or the original is manipulated or changed in anyway. Any version can then be accessed.

The vault is then divided into two parts, this first part holds a copy of the original image created in the camera, this is the master originals repository. The second, is the derivative repository, this holds versions of the original images. These are the edited versions of the original.
